Coalition Principles
Our coalition is dedicated to generating support for health care reform based on four principles. We believe any reform proposal must offer Americans:
Stable Coverage for those who already have it
-
- No denials of coverage because of pre-existing conditions or medical history
- An annual cap on deductibles and out-of-pocket costs
- No yearly or lifetime limits on coverage
- Coverage, without charge, for preventive care like mammograms, exams for diabetics and colonoscopies
- New steps to prevent gender discrimination and to extend coverage for young adults
- Guaranteed coverage and renewal even if you get sick for those who pay their premiums
Access to Affordable, Quality Care for those who Need it
-
- Tax credits to small businesses to help them provide health care coverage to their employees and to individuals to help them buy insurance
- An "exchange" where individuals and businesses can shop for policies, compare choices and buy insurance
- Lower costs for all Americans by reducing the burden of uncompensated care on our health care system
A Stronger Medicare for recipient today and tomorrow
-
- Maintained and improved benefits for current recipients
- Lower prescription costs for seniors who reach the so-called "donut hole"
- Investment in Medicare's future by strengthening the Medicare Trust Fund
- Prevented waste by giving Medicare new tools to increase accountability
A Reduced Burden on Our Economy
-
- Cost control for families, business and state and federal governments
- No increase in the deficit
